Special election underway; polling places consolidated

The special election to fill the vacancy of the late state Senator Dave Cox is now underway. Sample ballots have been mailed and permanent vote-by-mail ballots were sent Monday, Dec. 6.

The election will be a “consolidated” one with just one polling place — the county courthouse. Voters may vote by mail or at the courthouse. Other regular polling places will not be used.

Voters who are not permanent vote-by-mail voters need to pick up a ballot at the Office of the County Clerk Elections Division, in room 102 of the courthouse in Quincy, during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Voters can vote immediately, or take the ballot with them and return it at a later date.

They may also vote on Election Day, Jan. 4, 2011, at the clerk’s office between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Voters can request a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed to them using the form on the sample ballot.

The form is also available on the county website, countyofplumas.com. Click on “Department,” then “County Clerk-Recorder,” then “Elections Division” and finally on “vote-by-mail ballot application.”

Voters can get more information by calling 283-6256.
