75 YEARS AGO......1936

The longest rain storm in recent Plumas County history brought slides to the Western Pacific Railroad that had crews working valiantly this week to keep the line open near Pulga in the Feather River Canyon.

50 YEARS AGO.....1961

Plumas County listed 16.8 percent more businesses, 1,960 more than five years ago in 1955. Chester realized a 104 percent increase and Greenville a 5.4 percent increase in the number of businesses. There were 312 businesses listed in Plumas County this past year which is an increase of 45 total businesses.

25 YEARS AGO.......1986

Except for a few finishing touches, the new $1.5 million Plumas County jail opened this week. The Plumas County jail has gone from a 13 inmate capacity to legally bunk 33 prisoners.

10 YEARS AGO......2001

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors this week appointed Supervisor Donald Clark as chairman of the board for the second year.

Workers that were laid off for two weeks in December at the Sierra Pacific Industries mills in Loyalton, Quincy and Susanville resumed work last week. Just a few days later some 150 workers at the Loyalton mill were again laid off for possibly three months.
