The Feather River College Golden Eagles used stellar pitching and timely hitting to sweep a Golden Valley Conference three game series from rival Butte College over the weekend.

The Roadrunners from Butte came into the series with a 15-0 start to their season but hadn't faced stiff competition like the Golden Eagles have up to this point in the season. The Golden Eagles won the first game of the series at Butte College by a score of 6-2. The two teams then played Saturday's doubleheader at the Eagles Nest in Quincy and the Golden Eagles won game one 12-1 and they won game two by a score of 13-7. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 12-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

On Friday at Butte, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the third and three runs in the ninth to beat the Roadrunners by a score of 6-2. The Golden Eagles pitching staff was the difference as they allowed five hits and one earned run, and struck out six on the day.

Sophomore Jerad Harvey had his third consecutive solid start as he went 7-1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one run, and he struck four.

Freshman Andrew Millner picked up his third save of the season by striking out the final two hitters in the ninth with the bases loaded.

Offensively, the Golden Eagles were able to pound out 13 hits, but stranded 11 baserunners in the game. Sophomore Kyle Stone led the offensive output with three hits and two runs scored, and he drove in one run. Fellow sophomores Victor Mendoza, Casey Yocom and Jaret Bogue also contributed two hits each, as did freshman Daniel Katayama.

On Saturday, the two teams brought the rivalry to Quincy and the Golden Eagles were able to prevail with two victories on the day. In game one the Golden Eagles were able to score in five of their eight innings to cruise to a 12-1 victory. Offensively, the Golden Eagles pounded out 15 hits and three of those were for home runs. Sophomore Dayton Alexander led off the game for Feather River with a home run, as part of his two-hit performance in game one, and fellow sophomores Patrick Randolph and Jaret Bogue also added roundtrippers. Bogue's home run came in the eighth with the bases loaded to finish off the scoring for the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Kyle Stone led the hit parade with four hits in game one to go along with his three runs scored. Not to be outdone in game one was the pitching of freshman Dae Yang Kim as he tossed eight innings of four hit ball, allowing one run and striking out five. Fellow freshman Alex Vetter tossed a hitless and scoreless ninth inning while striking out two.

In game two, the Golden Eagles banged out another 13 hits and scored in six of their eight offensive innings on their way to winning a slugfest 13-7 over the Roadrunners. Sophomore Dayton Alexander led the way offensively with his three hits, three runs scored, two RBIs and a solo home run. Sophomores Kyle Stone and Casey Yocom each added two hits apiece, with Yocom also adding two RBIs to his day. On the mound freshman Andy Amaro picked up the victory in relief, as he went 3-2/3 innings allowing five hits and one run, while striking out five to get his second win of the season. The bullpen for the Golden Eagles allowed one run in 5-2/3 innings of work, as sophomore Cody Anderson pitched a scoreless eighth and freshman Andrew Millner pitched a scoreless ninth to finish off the sweep of the previously undefeated Roadrunners.

Up next for the Golden Eagles is a three-game Golden Valley Conference series with Shasta College in Redding. The first game of the series will be Friday, March 18, at 2 p.m. and the series will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 19, at noon at Shasta College.
