These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Quick fix: A plumbing problem is forcing the Plumas Unified School District to move its headquarters to the former probation building.
  • Lesser charges: A former Chester Public Utility District general manager pleaded guilty to reduced charges last month in connection with unauthorized use of a district credit card at a Reno strip club.

Utility cautions customers about power lines

Feather Publishing
3/28/2011

Snowfall has been very heavy throughout our service area, and the rising snowpack has created situations where cross-country skiers, snowmobilers and hikers may come into close contact with high-voltage power lines.

Normally these lines are at least 25-30 feet above the ground.

In some mountain areas, snowfall has been so heavy that the lines are now only 6-8 feet above the top of the snowpack.

PG&E advises people to stay away from power lines and not try to go under or near low-hanging power lines.

For their safety, we are asking all of our customers and anyone visiting mountain areas that have experienced snowfall to be extremely careful.

Additionally, as the weather clears and recreational vehicles return to these mountain areas, we ask riders to be aware that our crews may be working on power lines in remote areas. For your safety and theirs, please ride carefully.  Please also park completely off of roadways so larger vehicles like PG&E trucks can get past.
