The Reno, Nev., man charged in the death of 20-year-old Susanville man Rory C. McGuire was arraigned in Plumas County Superior Court on Tuesday.
Judge Ira Kaufman set a preliminary trial date for July 18 at 10 a.m. for Gregory Wallin-Reed, 36.
Reed is charged with killing McGuire following a car chase late Saturday night on the Janesville grade near Antelope Lake.
Wallin-Reed is accused of shooting at a car containing McGuire and five other men.
McGuire died two days after sustaining a bullet wound to the head.
Wallin-Reed, who is being held on $1 million bail, agreed to waive extradition.
Shooting victim Rory C. McGuire died Monday, July 4, from a gunshot wound to the head suffered in a shooting incident Saturday, July 2. The Washoe County Coroners Office will perform an autopsy. McGuire was a 2009 graduate of Westwood Charter School.
Gregory Wallen-Reed, 36, of Reno, has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted murder following a triple shooting Saturday night, July 2, near Antelope Lake.
According to the Plumas County Sheriff's Office, Wallen-Reed reported seeing several unknown subjects stealing solar lights from the driveway of his home around 11:30 p.m.

Six men fled in a blue sedan. Wallen-Reed gave chase in his truck. He alleged that someone fired at him from the sedan, so he returned fire. The sedan crashed several miles from Wallen-Reed's residence.
One of the men in the sedan was shot in the head and hand and was airlifted to Renown hospital in Reno. A second man was also hit by gunfire and was lifeflighted to Enloe hospital in Chico.
A third man sustained moderate injuries from gunfire and was transported by ambulance to Plumas District Hospital in Quincy. Three others were treated and released at the scene. Officials have not released the names of any of the men.
Wallen-Reed is currently housed at the Plumas County jail with bail set at $500,000.
