LACC Women’s Golf Club

Fifty players signed up for our annual Captain & Crew event participating in the Godfather game Aug. 23. Gangster costumes and props were optional; however, everyone was given a pin-on black tie and a See’s chocolate candy cigar to set the mood for the day’s activities. Each team was assigned a “family name,” and each family had a godfather who rubbed out one worthless hole for their game score.

The “Zia Guido” family of Madeline Furman, Judie Crain, Angie Gamble and Karen Schmidt came in first place. Second place was taken by the “Cortese” family of Joan Johnson, Mary Ann Broderick, Kathy Fuller and Collette Prentke. In third place was the “Vizzini” family of Carolyn Lowery, Pat Drake, Janet Hancock and Jacquie Longsworth. The “Battaglia” family of Kathy Chuchel, Tody Cutler, Carol Griswold and Amanda Hosman came in fourth place. There was a tie for fifth place between the “Gambino” family of Sue Hudson, Jude Morse, Carolyn Soper and Jean Rolls and the “Bonano” family of Barbara Leonard, Betsy Steen, Evelyn Rodriguez and Jill Dalton.

After the shoot-out, everyone fled to Recreation Area No. 1, decorated in black and white and red, where the luncheon meeting took place. Golf awards for this season were presented, and the election of bosses for the 2011-12 season was held.

The 2011 Club Champion award went to Trudy Leete. First flight winners in the club championship competition were Trudy Leete, first place; Darlene Donaldson, second place; and Kathy Roseler, third place. Low net winner in the first flight was Trudy Leete. In the second flight the winners were Kathy Fuller, first place; Karen Schmidt, second; and Martha Vlahos, third place. Low net winner for the second flight was Joan Johnson.

The day ended with a skit performed by the godfather and his thugs (Jude Morse, Joan Johnson and Kathy Chuchel) culminating in President Nancy Foote being presented a gift of a stick-horse head in recognition of her work as script coordinator in the filming of the original movie “The Godfather.”

Mt. Huff

Thursday night

Seven teams came out for the Thursday night Nine and Dine of Aug. 25. The evenings are shortening but there is still plenty of time to come out and enjoy our Thursday evening.

The team of Leaf Van Pelt, Don Guess, Auston Linford and Slamming Zach Russell came in first at 7 under. The team of Gary Metzdorf, David Smuts, Ron Clark and Jeff Stevens came in second at 6 under.

Paul Eagan had a great drive for the longest drive and Slamming Zach Russell proved he could be not only a long hitter, but an accurate one for closest to the pin.

We will have scrambles as long as there is light and no bad weather. Come out for a good time, and a good meal. You don’t have to do both, either one is available.

Check out our specials. Also, dinners are served Friday and Saturdays nights and a great brunch is available Sundays from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

To have your golf club included in the weekly results, email the information to or fax it to 283-3952 by Friday at 3 p.m.
