Mt. Huff Golf
We had thunderstorms in the wee hours of Thursday, but Wednesday, Sept. 7, was an excellent morning for golf! The turnout at the Wednesday Morning Scramble at Mt. Huff was excellent!
Our first place winning team members were John Hackett, Don McConnell and Jack Hatcher.
In second place were Ralph Cote, Jim Bryant and David Smuts.
Rounding out third place were Darel Joseph, Jerry Quam, Dick Grace and Leo Sorosinski.
Closest to the pin honor was taken by Jerry Quam.
The chip-in contest gave us two winners — Ralph Cote and Jim Bryant.
LACC Women’s Golf Club
It was a beautiful day for golf Aug. 30 as the ladies played the game of Low Ball High Ball. The lowest score on the front nine holes was added to the highest score on the back nine. This number was then subtracted from the net score for a game score.
In the first flight, Dana Seandel came in first place with a score of 58. Second place was taken by Jan Vortmann with a 60. There was a five-way tie (whew!) for third place with scores of 64 among Mary Craig, Sandy Feeney, Trudy Leete, Carolyn Lowrey and Marcia Spooner.
In the second flight, Lee Hunter came in first place with a score of 62. Joan Johnson and Nancy Foote tied for second place with scores of 63. Evelyn Rodriguez came in third place with a score of 64.
Birdies were made by Nancy Foote on No. 6, Mary Ann Broderick on No. 18 and Jan Vortmann on No. 18. Chip-ins were holed by Dana Seandel on No. 14, Carolyn Lowrey on No. 17, Jean Rolls on No. 18 and Claudine Gurney on No. 9. Nice going ladies!
Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club
Tuesday, Sept. 6: The Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club had its monthly “Ace of Aces” event. Christy Randall captured the low gross score and the net winner was Della Miller. They each qualify to play in an end-of-season tournament that will take place later this month. Congratulations to both ladies! Christy Randall was also our big chip-in winner. She took home $22. Free drinks next week for your buddies, Christy?
Lake Almanor West Women’s Golf Club
Today’s game was “Three Blind Mice.” It’s played by throwing out three holes and deducting your full handicap.
Great game. Our weather was beautiful and the golf course was great.
First flight winners were: first place, Kathi Shennan with a 52; second place, Jeanne Locatelli with a 53.
Second flight winners were: first place, Carolyn Soper with a 53; second place, Shirley Friedrichs with a 54.
We had one birdie today, by Kathi Shennan on hole No. 7.
LACC Women’s Golf Club
Tuesday’s game Sept. 7 was Bead String Shamble. The four-lady teams scrambled and strategized on how to use their string of beads to move their ball in any direction from any lie on the course to better their score. The results were amazingly close.
There was a tie for first place. Coming in with a score of 97 in first place were the team of Shirley Freeman, Kathy Fuller, Madeline Furman and Jill Dalton, tied with the team of Kathy Chuchel, Nancy Foote, Claudine Gurney and Betsy Steen.
There was also a tie for second place. With scores of 101, the winners were the team of Jan Vortmann, Peggy Lentz, Jude Morse and Carol Parish and the team of Sue Hudson, Gen Davis, Meg Eaton and Linda Yaap. Congratulations to all four teams!
