School district, sheriff issue predator alert
The Plumas County Office of Education and the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office are working together to alert parents about a possible predator.
The sheriff’s office notified the school district Monday, Nov. 14, of an incident in Portola over the weekend.
On Saturday, Nov. 12, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on East Sierra Avenue in Portola, a white male in his mid-30s with short dark hair driving a small, “shiny” light-blue two-door pickup with a black bed cover approached a 7-year-old girl and told her to get into his truck. The girl ran away and told an adult, and the male drove away.
A second report mentioned a similar individual observed watching children at play.
An automated phone message went out to parents Monday from the school district. School officials say they have talked to students about this incident and warned them to be vigilant. They are encouraging parents to do the same.
