Chris Fontana, "The Old Forecaster" 4/24/2014

Normal high and low temperatures for this week April 21-April 27 (high/low)...Redding/Red Bluff 73/48, Chico 74/46, Quincy 66/34, Chester 60/30, Susanville 62/35, Grass Valley 63/40, Weaverville 69/35, Mt. Shasta 61/35, Yreka 65/35 Alturas 62/30.
The cool and unsettled weather will continue for a few more days.  The jetstream continues to run across the Pacific and into Northern California.  Another weak low pressure trough will move through Northern California later today.   Light rain or showers will spread slowly across Northern California.  Snow levels will be 6000 feet or higher.

Friday a cold low pressure area will move across the north state with showers and possible thunderstorms.  Snow levels will be near 5000 feet.  This low will be accompanied by gusty southwest to northwest winds with gusts 25 to 30 mph in the valley and 40 mph over the higher elevations.  The showers will end on the coast range and valley by late afternoon and early evening, but will continue over the northern and eastern mountains until after midnight.

Saturday will be partly sunny to  partly cloudy until late afternoon when clouds will increase as the the last storm system approaches the coast.  This will be a weak system and will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies to the north state with showers on the coastal and northern mountains and a chance of isolated light showers elsewhere.

Sunday high pressure will begin to build along the coast. (see map below)  This high pressure area will get stronger and should hold over the area for at least a week.  This means sunny skies with temperatures back above normal by Monday and Tuesday.
