Fraud investigation under way at services district

Financial irregularities found at Indian Valley Community Services District have sparked an investigation, both internal and criminal.

Plumas County District Attorney Dave Hollister said his office was contacted and is conducting an investigation into possible fraud, which occurred in the past.

District directors have met three times in closed sessions to talk about this issue, releasing a statement to the public after their latest, a special meeting Monday, Aug. 20.

New district general manager Frank Richardson found the problem, according to the statement.

Unspecified whether collectively or individually, “the district” began an investigation and then Hollister’s office was contacted.

The investigation is in the early stages, Hollister said, and he is unable at this time to provide information such as a suspect name or alleged loss.

The district is cooperating fully in the investigation, he added.

If the investigation reveals any problems with the way the district handles public funds, they will be immediately corrected, according to the statement.

Directors also declined to make any other comments, saying they did not want to interfere or hinder the investigation.

Those who wish to read the full statement may stop by the Indian Valley Community Services District office in front of Plumas Bank on Highway 89, or visit indianvalleycsd.com.

Barring special meetings, directors of the Indian Valley Community Services District meet the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Meetings are usually conducted in the Greenville Town Hall, unless otherwise specified on the agendas posted according to Brown Act guidelines.
