The men’s tournament took place at the soccer field at Quincy High while the women’s tournament was at Feather River College’s field.

On Friday, Quincy’s men’s team lost its first match to Whittel 6-0. They also lost to Butte that day 3-1. On Saturday, Quincy sprang back and claimed a victory over Squaw Valley 3-1, but lost to Shasta 1-0 later in the day.

“I’m mostly proud of how the boys improved over the weekend,” said QHS men’s coach Tanner Johns. “The first game we were really disorganized and we really struggled, but the amount of improvement that QHS showed over the weekend was very significant.”

Whittel High took the championship, followed by Tulelake and Redding Christian.

The women’s tournament began with Quincy vs. Portola; Portola beat Quincy 6-0. Later in the day, Portola played Chester and lost the match 1-0.

Of all the Plumas County teams, Chester performed the best. Chester tied its first game against Susanville Strikers 0-0. After beating Portola, Chester beat Quincy 7-0.

Chester vied for the championship match, but lost to Susanville Strikers and finished overall in third.

Chester’s coach Eric O’Kelley praised his team’s teamwork, hustle and sportsmanship.

“This next couple of weeks we will be working on our movement, especially on our combination plays,” said O’Kelley. “Of course, conditioning is always something we work on as the season progresses as well.”

Chester will play its next game Friday, Aug. 31, in Susanville at 5 p.m. Portola will host Quincy Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. Quincy’s men’s team will play Sept. 4 against a team that is still to be determined.
