Boat ramp and other recreation improvements are in store for Antelope and Davis lakes in Plumas County this fall. Both ramps and a day use area will close temporarily as a result.

The Lost Cove Boat Ramp and Day Use Area in the Antelope Lake Recreation Area are scheduled to close for the season beginning Monday, Sept. 10.

While Lost Cove Boat Ramp is the only ramp on the lake for boat trailers, car top launching can be accommodated at various day use sites around the lake.

Enhancements to the Lost Cove Boat Launch/Day Use area include resurfacing of the parking area and boat launch, extending the boat ramp, restriping of the parking area to include 20 – 25 trailer spaces, as well as additional overflow trailer parking added to the access road to allow for seven trailers.

Improvements scheduled for the current facilities will also include two additional accessible parking spaces with a paved pathway leading directly to the top of the boat ramp, three additional picnic sites with new tables, shade structures and paved access. One of the added picnic sites will have new accessible features.

In addition, a newly constructed, universally accessible restroom facility will be located in the lower parking lot to allow direct access from the new accessible parking spots.

Honker Cove and Mallard Cove boat ramps on Lake Davis will close Sept. 18. The project’s duration is scheduled for 90 days, closing the two ramps for the season.

These projects include the replacement and expansion of 27,700 square feet of asphalt, removal of a hazardous curb, installation of root wads to improve fish habitat and provide an accessible trail to the ramp.

At Lake Davis, the Camp 5 Boat Ramp will be available to the public through the duration of the 2012 fishing season.

Plumas National Forest and California Department of Boating and Waterways are responsible for the improvements.
