National Guard assists firefighters

California National Guard resources are deployed to Gansner Field Airport in Quincy during the week of Aug. 18 to assist in fire suppression efforts within the Hough Complex and other nearby fires. A total of five resources have been assigned to the complex including two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters from Mather; one CH-47 Chinook helicopter from Stockton; and two HEMTT fuel trucks, one from Los Alamitos and one from Stockton. The resources were pulled off the Swedes Fire in Butte County where they were operating out of Oroville. Photo submitted

Several new lightning fires but firefighters are keeping them small

According to a statement released by the Plumas National Forest there is lots of smoke in the air but just a handful of very small fires resulted from the last lightning storms moving through the Plumas National Forest on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning (August 21-22). The majority of the fires were on the eastern portion of the forest.
