sanders joins chester agency

Kelly Sanders, who joined the Rouland Insurance Agency/Farmers Insurance team in Chester approximately six months ago, recently passed the California Department of Insurance tests to become a licensed fire and casualty broker. Kelly, a lifelong resident and Chester High graduate, is also a notary public. Agency owners Bob and Linda Rouland said Kelly has been a great addition to their staff and congratulate her on earning her broker’s license.

CARR JOINS THE FLANIGAN TEAM

After a formidable 32-year career with California State Auto Association as their Quincy insurance agent, Stan Carr decided it was time for a change and is now working for the Flanigan-Leavitt Insurance Agency. In addition to the auto and homeowners policies he sold, Stan said he is really looking forward to being able to offer clients a full choice of insurance products that will now include business insurance, commercial auto, workers compensation, professional liability and group benefits. With the vast insurance market access that this change brings, Stan will be able to offer many choices to the customer for both their personal and business insurance needs. “We’re excited to have someone like Stan with his experience make the choice to join our team,” said Mike Flanigan. Stan, licensed in both California and Nevada, will work from the Quincy office serving Plumas, Sierra and Lassen counties.

How sweet is this? Carey Candy Co.’s new home will soon be the former Quincy Appliance Store at the corner of Bradley and Lawrence streets. Compared to her present location on Main Street across from Plumas Bank, this new spot is huge, which excites owner Amy Carey even more. She has some “sweet” plans to expand her offerings — gift items, ice cream, fudge and a special “make your own gift basket” section — in the future so stay tuned. In the meantime, expect her to be moved and ready to go in late November.

Financial Advisor Steven King, of Edward Jones, and John Kimmel, CPA, of Bequette and Kimmel Accountancy Corp., are joining forces to offer an estate planning seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 1, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at St. John’s Parish Hall on Lawrence Street in Quincy. Topics that will be discussed by the two professionals in their respective fields include estate tax law changes, wills vs. trusts, probate issues and advanced care directives. They will also be reviewing the myriad of potential tax benefits of gifting using IRAs, appreciated assets and trusts. The seminar, hosted by the Plumas District Hospital Foundation, is free and refreshments will be provided.

EDWARD JONES’ SOON-TO-BE NEW HOME

The Dana Green Construction crew has been busy for the past couple of weeks remodeling a building on Harbison Street (that for decades was home to Quincy Community TV) for its new tenant: Edward Jones. The investment firm’s local financial advisor, Steven King, recently purchased the building and will be relocating his offices from their current location across the street from Morning Thunder to these new, more spacious offices in November.

SPEAKING OF REMODELING

The finishing touches are being done at the Gold Pan Lodge in Quincy. General Manager Janice Haman and owner Ghulam Farwed said they have renovated every room on the property, replacing carpeting, drapes, beds and some furniture — essentially making the entire facility brand new inside and out! Other amenities include spas in some rooms, HBO and cable TV, wireless internet and microwaves and refrigerators in every room. Each room also has a DVD player with over 700 movie titles to choose from. They also serve a continental breakfast daily. Gee, what more could you ask for?
