Countywide, between now and Christmas your merchants are doing their part by hosting many activities and sales events starting with Black Friday — the unofficial kickoff to the holiday shopping season the day after Thanksgiving.   Merchants in Chester are staying open Friday until 9 p.m. offering tasty treats, special discounted pricing and lots of prize giveaways. Other activities at this annual festivity include an appearance by Santa and ABC Center’s Christmas tree lighting (Hospice lights its tree Saturday at 6 p.m.).

Profiles in Business; Three generations take historic market back in time.

  Young’s Market has been a family-run business in Taylorsville for more than 150 years, and new owner Kelly Tan and her family want to return it to its heyday in some ways.

  On the way out will be one shelving unit, and in its place will be a huge farm-style table where patrons can sit by the new glass-fronted woodstove and enjoy food and drinks together.

Plumas Bank has announced that Leigh Calanglang has been appointed vice president, information systems manager. He is responsible for network administration, eBanking, item processing and overseeing the customer resource center. Leigh has more than 13 years of technology experience, most recently as network administrator. He is a graduate of the University of Phoenix, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in information technology and his master’s degree in information systems.

“A Christmas Tradition” features several Greenville and Crescent Mills businesses holding holiday open houses to kick off the season Nov. 2, 3 and 4. Participating businesses offering holiday cheer and special deals include Sterling Sage. I should add that owners Bink and Josh Huddleston met with owners of Mountain Fruit Company in Chico and brought back cases of fruit preserves just for this event. The others are Into the Woods, Evergreen Market, Sacred Space, Village Drug, Hunter Ace Hardware, Mohawk Trading Post, Donnell’s MusicLand and, of course, Crescent Country.
