75 YEARS AGO...........1937

One hundred ageratum bedding plants, the fast growing annual, were planted in the memorial plot in front of the Plumas County courthouse this week. The plot belongs to the American Legion Auxiliary.

The secretary of the Plumas County Chamber of Commerce Earl McDaniel, 67, died suddenly but the chamber-sponsored second annual amateur hour show that he had worked on with great vigor, will go on.

75 YEARS AGO............1937

Energetic means of destroying carp in Lake Almanor, which threaten to destroy trout fishing in that famous body of water, were undertaken this week by the Department of Fish and Game. Armed with special equipment, the warden has asked sportsmen to assist him and are to report to the Lake Almanor Inn or the Westwood Rod and Gun Club.

Purchase of the Feather River Park, a 300 acre summer resort in Mohawk Valley, by J.N. Stephan of Quincy, C.M. Hamilton and C.G. Fitzgerald of Los Angeles from H.H. Hunt has been completed. The park is equipped with 31 modern cabins, a nine hole golf course. playground, swimming pool and a tennis court.

75 YEARS AGO.......1937

The Quincy Fire Department was called to Keddie when fire broke out Tuesday evening on the roof of the Keddie Hotel. Damage accounts for about $1,000. Manager of the resort, Mr. Rihm says he appreciates the efforts of the QFD and plans to deliver members a free dinner to the firehouse soon after repairs are made.

An overflow crowd was present at the grand opening of the Beckwith Hotel Saturday night under the new management of Victor Colombo. The Wright Sisters of Reno were featured in the floor show.

75 YEARS AGO........1937

High water this year will make fishing on opening day poor this year, local anglers believe.

A rotary snowplow, assigned to clear the Bucks Ranch Road of snow from Tollgate to the summit arrived in Quincy yesterday, transferred temporarily from Susanville. It will operate 6 hours per day, using two crews of men for approximately ten days until the road is cleared.

75 YEARS AGO............1937

A photograph of Owen C. Morris, sales manager of the Quincy Lumber Company has been published in several publications throughout the Pacific Coast showing him catching a six and a half pound cutthroat trout at Big Bear Lake in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area of the Plumas National Forest on a one and a half leader. The fish was estimated as being 12 years old.
