Ocean salmon season returns
The Pacific Fishery Management Council has set the 2011 salmon seasons for ocean waters off California and anglers are going to enjoy, for the first time in several years, a full-blown season. This is very good news.
The ocean recreational season will be open through early September on the far northern California coast and through the end of October for most of the remaining coast. All areas have a daily bag and possession limit of two king salmon (also called chinook) and a minimum size limit of 24 inches. Coho salmon must be released.

The Golden Eagles defeated the Cougars by scores of 19-3, 9-3, 9-1 and 3-2. With the sweep, Feather River head coach Terry Baumgartner collected his 497th career win in his 14th season as a college head coach. The Golden Eagles improved their record to 24-4 overall and 17-1 in conference.
I don’t know about you, but I am chomping at the bit to get out and do some fishing. But as I look out my window while I write this……it is snowing….again. Hopefully, and according to the weather forecasters, that won’t be the case by the time you read this. Enough is enough. By this time of year, we still have a few spring storms ahead of us. But they should be more like warm showers than heavy snow storms.
Bringing back puma season?
Question: I am looking for some information on the seriousness of the apparent increase in mountain lion attacks in the news lately. There have been several incidents of bears attacking humans, and we have a bear season. I’m wondering if it might not be time to reconsider having a mountain lion season? I understand that more mountain lions are killed each year now with depredation permits than were ever killed with a mountain lion season.
