Finally the calendar tells us that spring has arrived. That is a good thing. Spring means the return of fishing season. But as I look out my window I can’t help but think the calendar just doesn’t have a clue.
The wet and stormy weather says “throw another log on the fire.”
Truth in advertising requires that I state up front that this report is not about my most recent fishing adventure. It is more about fishing adventures that I hope are just around the proverbial corner.
Shooting at the end of time?
Q.This situation happened to me. Five minutes before the end of shooting time I knocked down a snow goose that fell out of range and started swimming. I waded after it in the flooded rice field but couldn’t catch it or get within range until after shooting time ended.
In a case like that, do I shoot late or let it go and risk a waste of game citation?
Do wardens consider “spirit of the law” as opposed to “letter of the law?”

The ski teams of Quincy, Chester and Portola high schools competed at the state championships at Northstar last week, March 6 – 10, and all three schools brought home honors.
In the overall combined team results, Quincy took sixth place out of more than 30 schools, with six skiers earning points for the Trojans.
