The Feather River College women’s basketball team traveled to Delta College on Dec. 17-19 to play two games back-to-back. FRC fell 48-40 to Merced in the first game, and then lost 63-56 to Modesto to drop its record to 5-8 for the season.
“We played well, though,” said FRC’s coach Haley White. “We are continually getting better and more prepared for conference play.”

The Chester boys’ basketball team traveled to Quincy on Dec. 11 to take on the Trojans. Quincy trailed Chester by only a couple points the majority of the game until Chester finally defeated the Trojans 76-70.
“I thought this was a very good game,” said Quincy’s coach, Howard Hughes. “We’re both pretty equal. We had some opportunities to take control in the game that we missed.”
The first half was close. Chester led 14-13 at the end of the first period. Both teams continued swapping points to put Chester ahead 29-27 at the half.
Quincy took the lead toward the end of the half when Ty Morrison sank a three-pointer with less than 10 seconds remaining. Chester’s David Estacio retaliated with a three-pointer for Chester as time expired to regain the lead.

Portola High School celebrated its athletes at an awards ceremony Dec. 13 in the school’s cafeteria. Awards were plentifully given to the Northern Section Division IV champion football team.
After everyone in attendance plated up their dinners from a bountiful selection of food, Tiffany Williams began the ceremony by presenting awards to the cheerleaders. Each cheerleader received a specially selected award based on individual personalities.
With another successful season under its belt, the Feather River College soccer teams are now focused on something else: the players’ futures.
The men’s team finished first in the Golden Valley Conference, going undefeated in conference play with only one tie. The women’s team finished second in the conference with two wins, two losses and two ties.
