Taylorsville resident Clara Irene Mendler passed from this life Tuesday evening, Dec. 17, 2013, at Enloe Medical Center located in Chico.
Born in Sacramento to the late Lester and Caroline (Behm) Von Behren on Christmas Eve 1926, she was raised and educated in Sacramento. Following her high school graduation Clara began a career as a telephone operator, a career she worked at on and off throughout her adult life.
In 1985 she met and later married the love of her life for the past 28 years, Ralph Mendler Sr. in Sacramento. At the wishes of her husband, the couple left the big city life to reside in the Northeastern California community of Taylorsville in 1988. Here she found great peacefulness in working in her garden, especially tending to her beautiful roses. She also found relaxation in solving crossword puzzles.
In passing Clara leaves her loving husband, Ralph Ferris Mendler Sr., of Taylorsville; a brother, Charles Van Behren, of Sacramento; sisters Shelby Gustopherson and Gladys Rucker, both of Sacramento, and Margaret Vasquez, of Winston, Ore.; a stepson, Ralph Jr. of Portland, Ore., along with some very dear neighbors who have been so kind and helpful during this time.
The family asks that any remembrances in Clara’s memory be made to the Crones Disease Research Foundation c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 803, Greenville, CA 95947.
