  • A second chance: The new Day Reporting Center in Quincy held a grand opening that featured a recognition ceremony to honor achievements of people in the Alternative Sentencing Program.
  • Classrooms closed: Just days before classes were to begin, Quincy Elementary School staff were packing up classrooms in one wing of the structure because a roof needed to be replaced.
  • Body of missing man found: A search for missing Feather River College alumnus Lucius Robbi ended in Idaho with the discovery of his body and car. He was believed to have died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash.

Plumas-Sierra Farm Bureau offers scholarships

The Plumas-Sierra County Farm Bureau is honored to recognize and award deserving high school graduates and college students pursuing their education goals with scholarships for the 2014-15 academic year. Applications are due May 1 and are available by calling 993-4550 or 993-4097, by requesting online at haythere@psln.com or at local high schools.

The scholarship is based on school and community activities, scholastic achievement, leadership skills and written application. In order to qualify for the scholarships the applicants must meet one of the following requirements: 1) be an immediate family member of a Plumas-Sierra County Farm Bureau member in good standing; or 2) reside in Plumas or Sierra County and major in the agricultural field.

Dave Roberti, president of the Plumas-Sierra County Farm Bureau, stated, “It is our pleasure to help our young people continue their education in the field of agriculture.”

Farm Bureau is a nongovernmental, nonprofit, voluntary membership organization with the purpose of protecting and promoting agricultural interests throughout the state. Farm Bureau strives to protect and improve the ability of farmers and ranchers engaged in production agriculture, while providing a reliable supply of food and fiber through responsible stewardship of California’s resources.
