  • New state: Proponents of the state of Jefferson pushed the Plumas County Board of Supervisors to sign a declaration of support Jan. 20, but they didn’t get it.
  • Nursing home to close: Healthcare leaders learned that the skilled nursing hospital in Quincy is slated for closure, which would result in the relocation of more than three dozen patients and the loss of 60 jobs.
  • Program sacked: Judge Ira Kaufman is no longer sentencing people to drug court. He said he was ending the program because clients weren’t being served.

Quincy woman dies in Highway 70 crash

A Quincy woman was killed when the car she was driving left Highway 70 and struck two trees on Monday, March 24.

Helen D. Ettinger, 87, suffered blunt-force injuries to her head and torso after her 2009 Ford Escape left the pavement while she was headed westbound at an unknown speed.

A dog that was in the vehicle was also killed in the crash.

The crash happened near the Massack Rest Area. The exact time of the accident was unknown.

This accident is still under investigation.  See next week's paper for more details.
