  • A second chance: The new Day Reporting Center in Quincy held a grand opening that featured a recognition ceremony to honor achievements of people in the Alternative Sentencing Program.
  • Classrooms closed: Just days before classes were to begin, Quincy Elementary School staff were packing up classrooms in one wing of the structure because a roof needed to be replaced.
  • Body of missing man found: A search for missing Feather River College alumnus Lucius Robbi ended in Idaho with the discovery of his body and car. He was believed to have died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash.

The 2014 Running With the Bears event invites community groups to provide aid stations and compete for prize money during the marathon, half-marathon and 10K races this summer.

Parents clubs, cheerleaders, musicians, football teams, 4-H, parks and rec groups, and more are all invited to participate, have fun, win money and be part of the Boston Marathon qualifier in Indian Valley.

The fourth annual Running With the Bears event will take place in Greenville on Aug. 16. Organizers are looking for local groups to operate the water stations located every 2.5 miles throughout the course. Groups of four or more are needed. Volunteers will be shown where exactly to set up and will be trained on how to best support the runners. The rest is up to them!

At the end of the race, each runner will be given three tickets to vote for the winners in the following categories: best theme, best spirit and best snacks.

In each category, first place earns $1,000. Groups are eligible to win in all three categories for as much as $3,000.

Winners will be announced at the after-party hoe-down (5 p.m.). To claim one of the 13 station spots, contact Rachel at Mountain Circle Family Services via 284-7007 or rgoings@mountaincircle.org.
