  • Nursing home to close: Healthcare leaders learned that the skilled nursing hospital in Quincy is slated for closure, which would result in the relocation of more than three dozen patients and the loss of 60 jobs.
  • Program sacked: Judge Ira Kaufman is no longer sentencing people to drug court. He said he was ending the program because clients weren’t being served.

Meadow Valley man killed in tree falling accident

A Meadow Valley man was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a tree he was falling.

According to the Plumas County Sheriff, the man was identified as 71-year-old Daniel Beer.

Beer and his wife were reportedly cutting down a tree in Deanes Valley when the accident occurred.

The tree reportedly took an unusual bounce after it hit the ground, striking Beer and causing fatal injuries. Beer was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Sheriff’s Office sends our thoughts and condolences to the family,” Sheriff Greg Hagwood said. “This is a terribly tragic event.”
