  • New leader: After nearly three decades, the Plumas County Mental Health Commission has a new leader. Supervisor Kevin Goss was named to replace Hank Eisenmann.
  • Home away from home: As of last week, new homes had been found for all of the patients at Quincy Nursing & Rehabilitation and most had already moved.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR... PLUMAS COUNTY IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA... * UNTIL 715 PM PDT * AT 415 PM PDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED FLASH FLOODING FROM A THUNDERSTORM OVER THE WARNED AREA. * LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO LAKE ALMANOR AND ALMANOR AND STATE ROUTE 89 IN THAT AREA.

IN ADDITION TO THE FLASH FLOODING HAIL UP TO ONE INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN DEPTH BY FOOT OR BY AUTOMOBILE.

ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED ALONG THE WESTERN SLOPES NEAR THE CREST OF THE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAINS THIS AFTERNOON. A COUPLE OF THUNDERSTORMS WERE NEAR LAKE ALMANOR...ONE NEAR THE NORTH END OF THE LAKE AND THE OTHER NEAR THE SOUTHERN END OF THE LAKE. BOATERS SHOULD SEEK THE SAFETY OF SAFE HARBOR. OTHER ACTIVITY ALONG THE WESTERN SLOPES WAS LOCATED ALONG HIGHWAY 50 AND SOUTHWARD. LIGHTNING STRIKES...MOSTLY SMALL HAIL AND HEAVY RAIN HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THUNDERSTORMS SO FAR THIS AFTERNOON. CONTINUED THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS MAY BECOME STRONGER THIS AFTERNOON PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. PEOPLE PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IN THE SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAINS THIS AFTERNOON SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE SKY AND BE PREPARED FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER.
