These are a few of the stories you will find in this week's printed newspaper:

  • Townhalls attract crowds: Assemblyman Brian Dahle and Sen. Ted Gaines met with constituents in Quincy and Chester during a three-meeting swing through Plumas and Lassen counties.
  • New leader: After nearly three decades, the Plumas County Mental Health Commission has a new leader. Supervisor Kevin Goss was named to replace Hank Eisenmann.
  • Home away from home: As of last week, new homes had been found for all of the patients at Quincy Nursing & Rehabilitation and most had already moved.

Hagwood, Leonhardt win; supervisor race runoff

6/9/2010

12 p.m. update: Unofficial final results: Lundy and Kennedy will have a runoff for Plumas County District 5 supervisor. Dick Lundy received 943 total votes for 48.99 percent of the total and Jon Kennedy received 841 votes for 43.69 percent of the total. Lundy would have needed 50 percent plus one vote to win outright.  Ralph Wittick ended up with 136 votes or 7.06 percent.

Plumas County voters made an honest man out of Greg Hagwood, elevating him from appointed sheriff to elected sheriff with an overwhelming 81.9 percent of the vote Tuesday, June 8.

Incumbent county assessor Chuck Leonhardt retained his seat with a hefty 76.06 percent.

The District 5 supervisor’s race hung in the balance Tuesday night, with Dick Lundy at 49.07 percent with 95 ballots yet to be counted. Lundy needs 50 percent plus one vote to avoid a runoff with Jon Kennedy who polled at 43.74 percent. That means Lundy must get 65 of the remaining 95 votes to win outright.

Election officials expected to count those ballots – provisional ballots and vote-by-mail ballots that were dropped at precincts – at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.
