Words & Music season begins

10/13/2010

Words & Music returns from its traditional summer break with three October evening programs scheduled around the county.

First up is the Quincy Words & Music Thursday, Oct. 14, at Morning Thunder Café with featured artist Andrew Ohren.

In Portola Friday, Oct. 22, at The Feather Community Art Center featured musicians are Penny and Dude Berry.

Finishing up the month will be Jeff Ellermeyer as the featured musician Thursday, Oct. 28, in Chester at the Coffee Station.

At the Quincy show, Morning Thunder doors open at 7 p.m. and no-host coffees, teas and libations will be available.

The featured artist program begins at 7:20 p.m. Admission to this much-loved Plumas Arts program is still $3.

Featured artist Andrew Ohren has become a well-known favorite in Plumas County. “His technical capacity is striking,” said Quincy Words & Music coordinator Linda McDermott.

There is no limit to the beauty and diversity of solo guitar music when you listen to the music of solo guitarist Andrew Ohren. Using a nylon-string flamenco guitar Ohren is a master of replicating boundless styles of music with the instrument.

Ohren is also an accomplished classical guitarist and classical guitar composer. He has been performing since he was 18: across the U.S. and all the way to Paris France.

“The audience goes silent when he begins to play and watches in rapt attention. In recent years, he has expanded his repertoire to include popular songs and he has started singing. Andrew always delights. Everyone should come listen to him.”

Ohren first studied guitar with Douglas Murphy at Holy Names College in Oakland. He has also studied with Jim Burtrum at Cal State Hayward, Don Enríquez at Humboldt State, Ed Corey at University of Nevada-Reno, and Benoit Maural in Paris and has been taking master classes with great guitarist such as Michael Chapdelaine and Ana Vidovic.

Ohren has released his fourth full-length recording. He also accepts guitar students at all levels. For more information check out his website at andrewohren.com

Open stage will follow the featured sets where any aspiring poets, musicians, storytellers, actors or performers are encouraged to sign up at the door for a five- to seven-minute time slot.

All music performances must be acoustic only, with no electrical instruments or sound equipment allowed. Original work is encouraged.

Words & Music is an acoustic music and spoken word program which has been sponsored and facilitated by Plumas Arts since 1989.
