Child Support Services rated number one in state
The Plumas County Department of Child Support Services recently completed a decade of excellence, with the local agency being ranked in the top 10 for California counties each fiscal year since at least the year 2000 (local records on the awards only go back that far).
Fittingly, the California Department of Child Support Services ranked the Plumas outfit first in the state this year.
The county also won awards based on caseload size, being named the top performing agency and most improved agency in the “very small” category.
Department Director Michelle Blackford explained the ranking was based upon several factors, including: “paternity establishment, cases with support orders established, collections on current support, cases with collections on arrears and cost effectiveness.”
Blackford said her department was constantly creating new projects to target specific issues.
She explained this year’s focus was on cases in which the “non-custodial parent resides in a state other than California, with the hope of increasing collections for these difficult-to-manage cases.”
“I attribute our outstanding performance to a number of factors, the first being the core of our operation: a seasoned, supportive staff.
“We have 83 years of combined child support experience within our staff of nine.
“Our achievements are also aided by support and cooperation from the Plumas County Board of Supervisors and county administrative officer, our Child Support Court Commissioner Jeri Hamlin, our Child Support attorney Carroll Ragland and fellow county child support agencies.”
