Late Sierra snow causes traffic problems; Highway 36 closed

4:00 p.m. Update
Highway 36 over Fredonyer Summit in Lassen County is now open to normal traffic in both directions.  Highway 172 near Mineral in Tehama County has also been re-opened.

3:45 p.m.Update
Cal Trans reports that the east-bound lane of Highway 36 over Fredonyer Summit is now open.  The west-bound lane is still closed.

2:15 p.m.
A late spring storm is bring winter-like weather and driving conditions to the northern Sierras. Snow conditions are reported throughout Lassen, Plumas, and eastern Tehama Counties.

Cal Trans reports State Route 36 in Lassen County is closed in both directions at this time due to multiple vehicle spinouts over Fredonyer Summit. R1 conditions are in effect.

State Route 172 in Tehama County is closed at this time from Mineral to 5.5 miles east of Morgan Summit due to snow.
