Crawdad Festival in Quincy - Free Sunday event, live music

Staff Writer

June 17, 2011 – Despite the pancake shortage, this year’s Crawdad Festival at Gansner Park in Quincy, Sunday, June 19, could just fill the void left by cancellation of the Father’s Day Fly-in.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. and runs until about 7:30 p.m.

Quincy Chamber president and Southern Accent co-owner Kent Barrett stressed the emphasis is on family fun, especially with the Slip ’n’ Slide and coloring contest.

Crawfish, crawdads or crayfish — what other food could be featured but the tasty freshwater crustaceans? Southern Accent will offer crawfish plates with corn, potatoes and sausage, chicken sausage gumbo or catfish with hush puppies.

If that doesn’t tempt taste buds, Debbie Dogs and Timatillos Street Tacos will be on hand with alternatives.

Free live music starts about midday with The Fish Tacos, followed by The Funky Gators, and then Tommy Miles will close.

Parking is limited; Barrett encourages festival-goers to either park at the airport or dealership and walk over or bicycle to the park.
