These are a few of the stories you will find in this week's printed newspaper:

  • Not guilty plea: The man charged with first-degree murder in the December, 2014, death of a Greenville woman pleaded not guilty last week.
  • More Jefferson talk: Proponents of the state of Jefferson packed the Board of Supervisors room for the third time April 14, but once again did not walk away with the county’s support.
  • School cuts: The Plumas Unified School District is facing a $3 million budget deficit for the next school year, which will result in funding cuts in many areas.

Nakoma Golf Resort celebrates with grand reopening July 2

Nakoma Golf Resort invites the community to a grand reopening celebration Saturday, July 2. The festivities will include an all-American buffet of fried chicken and ribs and live jazz by Travis Vega.

The grand reopening is from 3 to 8 p.m. Green fees for the celebration will be $45 and the buffet will be $22. Jazz guitarist Travis Vega, who has been described as “a cross between Santana meets Wes Montgomery,” will perform from 3 to 7 p.m.

Nakoma was purchased last spring and the new owners immediately set to work with resortwide improvements.

The Dragon golf course was reawakened last month. Having garnered a reputation as a challenging course, the Dragon has been transformed to appeal to a broader range of golfers. Bunkers have been removed and reshaped, fairways have been widened and some greens (like the notoriously tough No. 12) will be totally redone to create a more player-friendly course. The changes were made to revitalize the course while making it accessible to players of all abilities.

Located at the base of the Sierra Buttes, Nakoma Golf Resort offers views from every tee and is home to a clubhouse designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright’s vision was carried through in the design of the Villas at Nakoma — each furnished with its own stone fireplace, private patio and hot tub. Stay and Play packages begin at $79 per person ($99 for weekends and holidays).

Nakoma Golf Resort is located at 348 Bear Run in Clio. For more information, visit nakomagolfresort.com. For the Nakoma Golf Resort and the Dragon, call (877) 462-5662. For the Villas at Nakoma, call (888) 624-2480.
