Update: Antelope Lake triple shooting

No evidence of weapons found in shooting victims' car

An investigation into the July 2 shooting death of Susanville resident Rory McGuire, 20, has yet to find evidence that he or the five other men in his car were armed.

Gregory Chad Wallin-Reed, 36, of Reno, Nev., faces eight felony counts, including murder, after he admitted opening fire on the Susanville men during a car chase.

Wallin-Reed, who called the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office after the shooting, claimed the six men were stealing solar lights from his residence along the Janesville grade.

Wallin-Reed said that one of the men in the fleeing car driven by McGuire on that late Saturday night fired a shot at him.

“If that was the scenario, the charges that have been filed in this case would have been entirely different,” Plumas County District Attorney David Hollister said. “But that scenario (exchange of gunfire) is not something that I have seen from the evidence.”

Wallin-Reed is charged with murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an assault weapon.

See this week's newspaper for more updates and further details.

I may be old fashioned, but trash talk and the actions of some young men, not boys, is what started this crime. At 19-20 years a majority of young people are married, have a steady job and careing for a wife and/or child. Not running around stealing, no matter how trivial you believe it was.

dont call me a thief... cuz im not one. we weren't on his property, 1 person got out the car. yea he snatched a cheap ass light from the fense line.
<br /><br />So his lights were not on his property? Yes, sucks for your "homie", true, but you were thieving.

i know we shouldn't have stopped... and we shouldn't have let the homie grab the lights. but to shoot a (censored) AR15 at us for that ... is dumb as (censored) ... and he deserves whatever happens to him. i really do feel bad for his family. but he didn't feel bad spraying up a car full of kids, (censored)

he followed us for miles... shooting the whole time... we did NOT shoot back... and we actually held white T-shirts out the window to show him that we surrender and we'd stop and give him his (censored) lights back.. and he just shot more when he saw the WHITE FLAG.

My heart goes out to Wallin-Reed's babies. HE deserves to be punished for his wrong, but they don't, and probably won't see their daddy for a long time. Yes, HE should have thought about that before he made the terrible decision, but those babies don't deserve to be punished.

Let's remember who the real victims are...innocent friends and family on BOTH sides. I don't feel sorry for those involved that night, as they all did wrong...varying degrees of wrong, but still wrong.

Might want to read what the law states in regards to so called "defending oneself"/quote]<br /><br />IF they did shoot first, as I said, then the situation changed and at that point he could possibly claim self defense. Maybe he followed to get the license plate. Duh

Chasing someone doesnt sound like he feared for his life. Might want to read what the law states in regards to so called "defending oneself" if not please advise your family when visiting days are and how many quarters they can bring into the visiting room when they come see you in prison.

Why are some people still saying the boys shot 1st & he was only returning fire? recent investion reports show even the DA states the evidence does not support that statement

as of 7/8/11 this news report:<br />“If that was the scenario (exchange of gunfire), the charges that have been filed in this case would have been entirely different,” Plumas County District Attorney David Hollister said. “But that scenario is not something that I have seen from the evidence.”

I'm not a thief, what is your point? <br />They were thieves. Do you consider their behavior anything other than criminal? As for as my reaction, you may be right, but I doubt it. But I would DEFINITELY be returning fire and defending myself. I exercise my 2A rights as should everyone. End of Story.

I really question his being a ex army ranger. I would like the D.A. to check into his military record and give us the truth.

Sacto cal, it would certainly be nice if you would volunteer a list of all your minor misdeeds so that the rest of us can guess what else you have been up to.<br /><br />I'd bet that you would have pissed your pants if an Army Ranger had been shooting at you. End of story.

If they did fire from the vehicle, then the shooter may be seen as defending himself. If not then it's a different story. Regardless, the men were criminals caught in a criminal act. I will bet the lights were not the first things these crooks have stolen.

Rory, Lewis and Robert have names. They are good people. They have lives, families, and friends. I'm glad everyone knows the shooter's name and not the victim's. You know what I get to do this weekend? Go to a funeral and say goodbye to a long time friend. Get some compassion. "Firecrackers" my a**.

"Yup," You need to correct your statement about "killing a few of the people in the car and injuring the others..."<br /><br />Wallin-Reed killed one and injured two others.

Just A Thought Sunday, 10 July 2011
I'm sure the law enforcement has looked into every possible senarios, but either way the man pulled a gun and shot at people....killing a few of the people in the car and injuring the others. Sooo, even ifit was a "Firecracker" he still killed someone.

If someone discharged a firecracker, could that not have triggered a mental episode and where would that evidence be? Has anyone in law enforcement looked for evidence of other possible scenarios?
