Feather Publishing
10/10/2011

Effective Friday, Oct. 7, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) Lassen-Modoc-Plumas Unit (LMU) rescinded the suspension on all burning on state responsibility area lands within Lassen, Modoc and Plumas counties. LMU will maintain and staff an appropriate level of firefighting resources until the potential for wildfire decreases.

Following are some important things to remember regarding residential burning:

—Residents may be held civilly and criminally liable for any fires that escape their control.

—Burning can only be done on permissive burn days. To find out if it is a permissive burn day, contact the local Air Pollution Control District (APCD). Phone numbers are below.

—Only natural vegetative material such as leaves, pine needles and tree trimmings may be burned.

—Household garbage may not be burned.

—Do not burn on windy days.

—Burning in a burn barrel is not permissible outside specific areas. Contact the local APCD to determine which rules apply.

—Burn permits are not needed until May 1, 2012.
