  • New state: Proponents of the state of Jefferson pushed the Plumas County Board of Supervisors to sign a declaration of support Jan. 20, but they didn’t get it.
  • Nursing home to close: Healthcare leaders learned that the skilled nursing hospital in Quincy is slated for closure, which would result in the relocation of more than three dozen patients and the loss of 60 jobs.
  • Program sacked: Judge Ira Kaufman is no longer sentencing people to drug court. He said he was ending the program because clients weren’t being served.

Prescribed Burn on Almanor Ranger District

The Almanor Ranger District Fire Management Department is planning to conduct a prescribed burn within the West Dusty Timber Sale area.  Smoke may be visible from Johnson Grade.
· Descriptive Location: Northern edge of the District, on the south side of Sifford Mountain
· Legal Location: T29N, R5E, Section 10
· Total acreage: 36 acres
· Planned initiation: Tuesday, October 25, 2011
· Duration of ignition: If favorable conditions persist, an additional 52 acre unit in the same area is planned for later in the week.
· Communities or Smoke Sensitive Areas:   For westbound motorists, smoke will likely be visible from the top of Johnson's Grade.
