Public encouraged to attend EQSD informational meeting

The East Quincy Services District will outline the results of a wastewater treatment plant feasibility study on Monday night.

Customers of the EQSD and Quincy Community Services District are encouraged to attend the meeting 6:30 p.m. meeting at Pioneer Elementary School.

The study by EQSD engineer Dan Bastian will address the feasibility of building a wastewater treatment plant in East Quincy.

Bastian said his presentation would last about an hour. He said would answer questions afterward.

The East Quincy board commissioned Bastian to examine the feasibility of building a wastewater treatment plant in East Quincy.

That EQSD currently pays Quincy to use its treatment plant.

Quincy has acknowledged that its aging treatment facility (built in 1983) will need millions of dollars in upgrades to meet increasingly rigid state standards.

The treatment plant has become a major concern for the EQSD board.

EQSD’s directors have argued it might make sense for East Quincy to build its own plant rather than having its customers split the cost to upgrade the Quincy plant.

At a Jan. 25 American Valley Community Services Authority meeting, QCSD board members praised Bastian for conducting the study. Bastian has been working with both districts to gather as much information as possible for the study.

The AVCSA board said Bastian’s report could help determine the way Quincy treats its wastewater in the future.
