School recall effort underway: Board member quits post

After the Plumas Unified School District superintendent and two school board members received notices that a recall effort was underway to remove them from office, one school board member abruptly quit.

Brad Baker, who represents the Quincy area, stood and said, “I will save the district the cost of a recall election – I quit.”

Sonja Anderson, the other board member targeted for recall, and Glenn Harris, the superintendent, remained for the rest of the board meeting, though Anderson called for a 15-minute recess. Anderson took over running the meeting, which Baker had been chairing.

For more on this story and the other events of last night’s school board meeting, which included presentations from the 7-11 committees as well as discussion about early retirement packages for teachers, please see the March 14 issue of your local newspaper.

Other official comments such as "By recruiting the very best education professionals, we can be sure of the continued success of our students."<br />Where are they hiding these individuals? Certainly NOT at Chester High. We need to clean from bottom up starting here with the poorly credentialed.

They all should be removed. This goes right down to individual "teachers" who seem to think that they control the students lives. Considering the fact that they cannot even follow the guiding principles taken from the website of "Inspiring Personal Achievement, Citizenship and Academic Success."

I'm sure you have some hard facts to back up your statement that teachers are somehow overcompensated. <br /><br />For PUSD:<br /><br />Average teacher salary, 2011: $56,509 (down from $58,155 in 2008).<br /><br />Lowest Possible Teacher Salary $33,672<br />Highest Possible Teacher Salary $75,284
