Clio man killed in single-vehicle crash

A Clio man was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash west of Portola.

Michael W. Shegda, 65, died after his truck left the roadway about 2:30 p.m. and struck two trees off of westbound Portola-McClears Road (A-15).

According to the California Highway Patrol, Shegda was traveling at an unknown speed when his 2006 Dodge Ram failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

The truck went over an embankment and rolled onto its left side before striking the trees about seven feet off the ground.

The impact partially collapsed the truck’s cab.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the CHP and Plumas County Sheriff.
