75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    A Plumas County Bank sale was held for the 400m acres Watts Ranch in Indian Valley to Joseph Miller for $8,500. It was formerly known as the Jerry Evans Ranch.

    A special snowball train from San Francisco traveled to Portola last Sunday and generated some $1,000 in revenue for Plumas County according to the Plumas County Chamber of Commerce.

    Skippy the little white dog of uncertain lineage who left a Winters Creek cabin February 16 with his mistress Mrs. Winona Ferris, in an attempt to reach human habitation over the snow of the Middle Fork of the Feather River, reached Quincy Sunday. He had stayed there with the frozen body of Ferris for ten days.

75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    The California State Highway Patrol office in Plumas County reports that they have collected $18,500 during January after issuing 1688 license plates to Plumas County residents.

    The big ten day storm ended Monday after dumping twice the amount of normal rain and snow for the season. Mail, telephone and telegraph service was interrupted at times, but the Feather River Highway remained open.

    Sixteen district area Rotary Clubs will be represented at charter night ceremonies in Portola next month when the newly formed Portola Rotary Club receives its charter from Rotary International.

75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    A three day storm brought some five inches of precipitation throughout Plumas County. A high wind brought snow on Monday night which continued most of Tuesday and then turned into a cold rain, making for slushy roads in Plumas.

    In this weeks newspaper is a picture of J. Groundhog, owned by C. Felix Stouky of Squirrel Creek. The little fellow peeked out of his winter quarters yesterday long enough to see the big snow storm, failing to cast a shadow indicating more winter.
