POWELL NAMED MANAGER
    Longtime resident Rob Powell has been promoted to manager at Coast Gas in Quincy. He replaces Dave Pearson who is retiring after a 36-year career in the trade. Rod has worked for the propane gas company for 13 years and has been a very active member of the Quincy Volunteer Fire Department for nearly as long. He and his wife Lori, who is employed at Bank of America, live in Quincy.

SOMETHING NEW AT CHAMPIONS
    Palate-pleasing gourmet soups have been added to the menu at Champions Pizza and Wings in Quincy’s Plumas Pines Shopping Center. Manager Tim Schooler said they feature a different soup each day.

CHOWDER COOK-OFF IN WESTWOOD
    Mark your calendars for a day of family fun as the Westwood Chamber of Commerce gears up for the annual Chowder Cook-off. It is set for Jan. 16 at the Westwood Visitors Center. Cooking begins as early as 8 a.m. with tasting beginning at noon. Entry forms are available at Young’s Market, Holiday Quality Foods, Chuck’s Railroad Room, Always Sunny Tanning and at the Visitors Center. Chamber President Jodi Gunn said awards will be given for Popular Vote, Judges Choice and Best Decorated Booth.

NEW YEARS EVE CELEBRATION
    Executive Chef Sean Conry appears to have really outdone himself as he unveils his plans for the restaurant’s 9th New Years Eve celebration at Longboards at the Plumas Pines Golf Resort in Graeagle. He has carefully planned a five-course meal that can be complemented with a selection of imported wines from Spain, Italy and South America for each course. The regular wine list will also be available for those who choose not partake in the special pairings. The Alternators from Chico will perform rock and roll favorites spanning the last three decades for your dancing and listening pleasure beginning at 10 p.m. Be sure to make your dinner reservations soon.

  Nine years—wow! That’s how long Courthouse Cafe owners Dutch and Kim Morrison have been owners of downtown Quincy’s popular breakfast and lunch café across from the courthouse.

   Graeagle-based DISHgrace Party Rentals is celebrating its sixth year of providing party supplies throughout Plumas County. They have a new website, dishgracepartyrentals.vpweb.com, where customers can reserve dates, view inventory, place an order and even pay online. Owner Klytia Dutton says a major percentage of her annual invoices are never collected, because she donates many of those services to the local organizations and charities hosting events.

HOMEBUYERS TAX CREDIT EXTENDED
    The federal tax credit for home buyers the president signed into law recently was set to expire Nov. 30, but has been extended until Apr. 30, 2010. It was also expanded to include existing homeowners who have lived in their primary residences for five consecutive years out of the last eight years. First-time homebuyers may still be eligible for a tax credit of up to $8,000, while existing homeowners may receive a credit of up to $6,500. The bill also increases the qualifying income limits, and taxpayers can claim the credit on purchases completed in 2010 on their 2009 income tax returns. Ask your Realtor for all the details.
