  Life is tough enough for people who come into the world with all of their faculties intact, but for those with disabilities, life is even tougher.

  The ALIVE program, one of Plumas Rural Services’ many offerings, helps people with developmental disabilities live productive and enriching lives.

6/17/2013 Update 4 p.m.:

All who cared about Luke Sheehy — a Lassen County firefighter and  smokejumper who died June 10 from injuries he suffered while fighting a wildfire on the Modoc National Forest — are invited to honor his life at two memorial services this weekend.

Doug Sheehy, Luke’s father, said the family invites everyone who loved and cared about Luke to attend a Day of Honor at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22 at Walker Mansion in Westwood. Food and refreshments will be provided.

The wildland firefighting community also presents a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at the Redding Civic Center.

Doug Sheehy said a Luke Sheehy donation account has been opened at U.S. Bank in Susanville for those who would like to make a donation in his son’s memory.

  The Plumas County Board of Supervisors began its June 4 meeting with a packed agenda and a full boardroom for most of the day.

  Supervisors considered a host of items from honoring a public works department employee, which drew in many members of the road department crew, to discussing next year’s budget, which attracted most of the county’s department heads.

  Plumas County is weighing in on the Plumas National Forest’s plans for recreation at Lake Davis and it includes snowmobiles.

  “This has been controversial,” said Public Works Director Bob Perreault. “There has been so much discussion — so much concern by the stakeholders.”

  Many of those stakeholders are snowmobile enthusiasts who were dismayed to see their favorite trails removed from access on Forest Service plans.

  Perreault’s alternative, which he was asking the Plumas Board of Supervisors to support, includes snowmobile trails. (See adjacent map.)

  Fire restrictions will go into effect June 15 within the Plumas National Forest (public land) according to Earl Ford, forest supervisor. “We’re a couple of weeks early this year because of hot weather and dry woody fuel conditions,” he noted.
