Case in point: Although Longboards Bar & Grill doesn't close for the season until Oct. 25, they are already taking private bookings, as I'm sure all restaurants that accommodate groups are as well, for the upcoming holidays and other special occasions. Besides making their facilities available during the "off-season," Chef Sean and company will also cater your event off-site.
Under new ownership and management, the Plumas Cafe in the Plumas Pines Shopping Center has reopened. Longtime resident Cheryl DeMartini will manager the coffee shop for owner Mario Marquez, who also owns Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant on top of Cemetery Hill. They serve traditional American-style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 9 p.m.
This Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8-5 p.m., Bill Coates and his crew are having the official grand opening of Fast Trac Lube, the while-you-wait lube, oil and filter service for cars and trucks available at Les Schwab Tires in Portola. Besides getting a great deal on an oil change and service, there are free Monster Truck rides for the kids (with the coupon from either their ad or insert in this week's Portola Reporter) and high school students serving bbq'd hamburgers and hot dogs while offering car washes to raise funds for their sports activities.
