Ranchers wanted for survey

A group of researchers at University of California, Davis has received funding from the United States Department of Agriculture to conduct cutting edge social and ecological research on rangelands. The research team aims to understand the many ways in which ranchers manage livestock and lands for multiple goals. March 21 marked the beginning of the survey, which went out to more than 1,750 ranchers asking them to share their opinions and knowledge with the survey team.

 

Bradley Appeal Denied

Background: Willard Bradley was sentenced to 10 years in prison in early 2009 after being convicted on a charge of voluntary manslaughter with an enhancement for using a gun in the commission of a felony. A jury found Bradley, then 22, guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death May 17, 2007, of Dominik Wolfe at the Valley Heights apartments in Quincy.

Fatal snowmobile accident in Lakes Basin

On Sunday, April 3, at about 4:21 p.m. the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office was advised by Plumas County Sheriff’s Office that a snowmobile accident had occurred near the Sierra/Plumas county line.    The location was approximately 40 feet from the entrance to the Day Use Area of Gold Lake, near the town of Sierra City. The rider had apparently rolled the snowmobile down a slight ledge and then became trapped beneath the snowmobile.
