Medeiros, who was initially unconscious according to the California Highway Patrol, suffered a lacerated forehead and other abrasions.

Kalbfleisch reportedly sustained abrasions to her left collarbone and knee.

According to the CHP, Kalbfleisch was wearing a seatbelt. Medeiros was not.

The accident happened after Kalbfleisch said she tried to roll down the right-front passenger window to remove a wasp that was inside the 1987 Honda.

While trying to get rid of the bug, the car drifted off the road and onto the west shoulder.

The front of the car struck a black and yellow hazard sign and a metal beam bridge rail.

Kalbfleisch said the car was traveling about 35 miles per hour before the crash.
