Normal high and low temperatures for this week June 17-June 23(high/low)...Redding/Red Bluff  93/63, Chico 92/58, Quincy 84/43, Chester 80/43, Susanville 82/48, Grass Valley 81/52, Weaverville 86/45, Mt. Shasta 79/48, Yreka 84/47 and Alturas 80/41.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The low pressure area continues moving slowly eastward across Washington and Oregon (see satellite picture below).  Today will be partly cloudy north of Redding with a few showers near the Oregon border with partly to mostly sunny skies elsewhere.   Temperatures will be cooler with the valley in the upper 70 and lower 80s and the foothills and mid elevations (1500 to 4000') in the mid 60s and 70s.  Gusty southwest to northwest winds will occur in the afternoon.

Thursday and Friday the low pressure area will be over Idaho and will still be close enough to bring a few clouds to Siskiyou and Modoc counties.  The rest of our area will be sunny and a warmer and by Friday temperatures will be a few degrees below normal.

Saturday high pressure will be trying to rebuild along the west coast as the map below shows.   However, low pressure areas or storms will still be forming in the Gulf of Alaska and moving toward the Pacific Northwest.  Saturday looks mostly sunny with temperatures finally back to about normal for this time of year.  Late Saturday and Sunday another weak storm will reach the west coast and bring clouds and isolated showers to Northern California.  Then late Sunday and Monday a wetter system will move through the area with clouds and scattered showers and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures Sunday and Monday will drop back to 10 to 20 degrees below normal.

Tuesday the strong high pressure area that has been to our east will move back to the west.   This should bring clearing and warming and late next week we should see a return of hot weather.
