City of Portola moves ahead with Prop 218 process for rate increase

At their regular meeting Feb. 23, Portola's City Council voted to go forward with the proposed rate increases to city water and sewer customers and to begin the Proposition 218 process.

 

Social services positions in limbo

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors (BOS) recently delayed the filling of three vacant positions in the social services department, including two providing around-the-clock emergency responses to "serious allegations of abuse or neglect" in the adult and child protective services units.

Organizers are recommending that folks buy their tickets early for the fifth annual Taste of Plumas, scheduled for Saturday, April 9, at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds in Quincy.

The culinary extravaganza, a major fundraiser for Plumas Arts, is one of the most anticipated events of the season - and it has sold out every year. Annual rave reviews build the returning crowd.

 

Audit finds Plumas is "one of the best"

Independent Auditor Norm Newell of Smith & Newell characterized Plumas County as “one of the better ones” in terms of financial management when he delivered the county’s annual audit report Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Newell told the Board of Supervisors the county earned an “unqualified or clean opinion,” which he explained was “what you want to have.”

 

Portola City Council reviews draft medical marijuana dispensary ordinance

At the Feb. 2 meeting of the Portola City Council, City Attorney Steve Gross introduced a draft of a five-page ordinance to ban medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits. After consideration, Ordinance No. 339 will be back on the Feb. 23 agenda for approval and become effective March 23.
