Three amphibians and their habitat proposed for federal protection

  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to list the Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog and the northern distinct population segment of the mountain yellow-legged frog as endangered and the Yosemite toad as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

 

QLG asks Park Service to transfer $10 million to USFS

  Should the National Park Service compensate the U.S. Forest Service for damages caused by the Reading Fire last summer?

  The Quincy Library Group members think so and they unanimously passed a resolution to ask the Park Service to transfer $10 million to the Forest Service.

A second fire broke out in East Quincy across from the Lariat Lodge on May 1 around 1:45 p.m. While the fire at the Sierra Pacific Industries’ mill raged on, a mobile home was totally engulfed in smoke and flames. Firefighters scrambled to douse the flames at the East Quincy site. Nearby passersby said they saw flames shoot 15 feet high from the home of Steve Sasser.  Photo by Jesse Buus


 
 

Portola offers city manager job to Ian Kaiser

  After months of searching for the next city manager, the city of Portola may have found its perfect match in Ian Kaiser.

  At its meeting April 24 the City Council voted to extend a conditional offer of employment to Kaiser during the closed session of the meeting.

 

County fair right on track

  This year’s county fair is right on track, reported fair manager John Steffanic at the regular board meeting April 24.

  He presented a draft exhibit guide and event schedule to board members and reviewed the highlights of the “Fun, Family, Friends”-themed fair, scheduled for Aug. 14 – 18.
