Long time Quincy resident Dorothy Pierson Stricker passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in the evening. She died peacefully in her sleep at Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee and is now at home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her children, Barbara and Bill, and her grandchildren Justin, Dorothy, Matthew and Stacia.
She and her husband, Bob, moved to Quincy in 1960 from the Bay Area. Dorothy worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles and Social Services until she retired.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, April 19, at 2 p.m. inthe Quincy Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member.
The family would like to thank her friends and the Methodist Church for all the love and kindness they showed her when she was no longer able to get out of her house. Thank you to the many people who brought her the books she loved to read.
Edith Norma Hamby, known by her friends as Edie, passed away on April 3, 2013, at the age of 95. She was born in Los Angeles, on May 5, 1918.
She is survived by her husband, John; three step-daughters; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Edie moved from Los Angeles to Paradise and then to Portola in 1976. She belonged to the original group that organized the first Rail Road Days, helped organize the first Chamber of Commerce and was the office manager for Hamby Surveying for 30 years. She also gave her support to many charities.
Remembrances may be made in Edie’s name to Portola High School Purple Pride, Portola Rotary Club or to the High Sierra Animal Shelter.
Quincy resident Betty Zenaida Cortez-Young passed from this life unexpectedly, Tuesday afternoon, April 9, 2013, at Plumas District Hospital. Betty was 59 years old. Born in Oakland, to Claudio and Mary (Ayala) Cortez on Feb. 6, 1954, she moved with her family at a young age first to the northeastern California community of Westwood and later settling in Quincy.
Betty was a 1972 graduate of Quincy Jr. Sr. High School and following her graduation went on to attend a semester at Chico State.
She returned to Quincy and began what became a thirty-nine year career with Plumas County Dept. Social Services where she was currently their staff services manager. She was respected and admired by her fellow employees for her dedicated and common sense approach to her job.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, watching movies and attending Oakland Raider games with her family. Betty attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Quincy.
In passing, Betty leaves her sisters Margaret Vialpando and husband Ed, of Greeley, Colo., Liz Cortez and husband Robert McLean, of Quincy; brothers Claudio M. Cortez and his fiancée Jane, of Susanville, and Horacio Cortez and his wife Stefanie, of Ball, La. Betty also leaves four nieces, eight nephews and one great-niece.
She joins her parents, husband Gene Young, sister Rose Cortez and brother Antonio Cortez in their eternal home with the Lord.
A celebration of Betty’s life was planned for Saturday, April 13, at the Plumas County Department of Human Services.

Gary Crawford was born Dec. 19, 1938, in Seattle, Wash.
He died Feb. 8, 2013, in Quincy.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 27 at the Capitol Arts Center on Main Street in Quincy at 2 p.m.

Reno, Nevada, resident and former Quincy resident Alice Marie Trigg died, with her family at her side at her residence in Reno, Monday, April 1, 2013, at the age of 79.
She was born in Fresno on July 23, 1933, to Roy and Florence (Pense) Harrison.
Alice had resided in Quincy from 2007-2010.
In passing Alice leaves her daughters, Judith M. Altes, of Quincy, Alice “Jane” Pollard, of Benicia, Katherine J. Andrews, of Canyon Lake, TX and Terri Lynn Norris, of Reno, Nev.; her brother Wayne W. Harrison, of Sonoma; 17 grand- and numerous great-grandchildren.
She joins her two brothers and a sister in their eternal home.
Private family services will take place at a later date.
