75 YEARS AGO...1936

The three high schools of Plumas County will close next week for the summer recess.

A Western Pacific Railroad passenger train was held up in Sloat Friday night by a fire there. A hose was stretched across the railroad tracks to combat the fire which destroyed a small house.

50 YEARS AGO...1961

Steps have been taken to bring the new Plumas County Hospital up to satisfactory condition was reached this week by the architects hired by the Plumas County Board of Supervisors. Major improvements include fixing cracks, making the roof drain property, fix the furnace in the boiler room and fix the incinerator.

25 YEARS AGO...1986

John Malarkey, superintendent of the Plumas Unified School District since 1975 is retiring effective this August. He was hired as a teacher 1959-1961 and then became superintendent of high school instruction with the Plumas Unified School District 1961-1965. Malarkey assumed the position of superintendent after Grant Youngs retired in 1965.

10 YEARS AGO...2010

More than 100 students graduated from Feather River College in ceremonies held last weekend.

Plumas County faces a public hearing and a $10,000 fine by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board for violations at the Chester landfill for not complying with state board requirements of submitting reports.
