According to Sierra Pacific Industries spokesman Mark Pawlicki, a formal announcement about SPI’s settlement with the federal government over the Moonlight Fire won’t happen until next week.
“The lawyers are still quibbling over the details,” Pawlicki said Friday. “There won’t be an announcement until they agree on all the terms.”
In a July 9 memo to employees, SPI owners Red, George and Mark Emmerson said the agreement would include cash and a transfer of some SPI timberlands.
The government was seeking $700 million in damages from SPI for the 2007 Moonlight Fire.
The Emmersons said they still believe neither SPI nor its contractors started the fire. They said they decided to settle because a judge said they could still be held responsible.
