Following a nearly three-hour closed session, the Plumas Unified School District Board of Trustees voted 4-0 to accept the resignation of Glenn Harris as superintendent of schools for both the school district and the county boards of education.

School board president Christopher Russell made the announcement at approximately 11:10 p.m. in the Portola High School library following a lengthy meeting. He said he was authorized as president to sign a final agreement with the superintendent when it was reached.

More information will be posted on this site as it is available. The full story will appear in the April 25 edition of the newspaper.

Not sure which is more exciting- that Harris resigned, or that the board voted 4-0 to accept it. This is encouraging, given all the work that is to come. Unity will be needed to put it all back together and chart a new course. Well done!

Thank you to everyone that worked so hard in this effort. Thank you to the board for standing by your communities. We have a chance for a new direction to save our schools, our teachers, and communities. We have united our county to stand together. Thank you!

The 711 final recommendation docs are due this Friday. These need to be made public ASAP.

These Docs need to be reviewed along with public comment at Board meetings.

Our effort is still required - the Board still needs to hear from us.

As they say - you can't fix stupid. The schools are impacted by CA being bankrupt. The kids and thier future are paying the price. Its okay to be enthusiatic to solve the problem. Some are saying the taxpayers are tiered of being the lottery ticket for the unions. Support knowledge not propaganda.

A year from now Plumas County will have the same problems. Residents will still be trying to come up with illogical answers to logical problems. Mr. Harris will join the ranks of many who look back with a sigh of relief over getting out of Plumas when they did.

This is not about the message or the messenger. We all know we have a tough situation on our hands. This is about the failure to manage this crisis and others over the past few years. Let's make sure our next superintendent is one of us and will work with us rather than against us.

It shoud be obvious now that our school board members have had our best interests at heart. They should be appreciated. This is only a small part of systemic problems we face as a community. What now? Are we willing to continue to work at solutions, or do we return to complacency?

If IV wants a public school, they need more families here. Someone needs to work hard on getting new employment opportunities here. How else will this happen?

Uniforms and a closed campus should be mandatory for the HS - that should be next. Glad there is some change forward.
